Mark 10:17-31

When’s the last time you stepped back and thought about the story of your life? What have been some of the high and low points? What challenges did you face and overcome? What lesson does your life teach? If someone were making a documentary of your life, what would it be called?

This Sunday, we’ll see a man whose entire life story was altered in just the few minutes he shared with Jesus. Spoiler alert: it’s not a happy story. In fact, it’s one of the saddest accounts in Mark’s gospel, as we’ll see him reject Jesus and forever shape the trajectory of his life.

His story will challenge us to think about our own life—the opportunities in front of us and how we will respond to them. Will we follow in this man’s steps and live a life “that could have been”, or will we follow Jesus into the future and let him write our story? This week’s message, “Go & Come,” will test our discipleship and encourage us to keep moving forward in faith.

A warning label is a label attached to a product by the manufacturer in order to warn the user about the potential risks associated if proper action is not taken.

This Sunday’s sermon should be viewed as such . . . a warning label for all of those who would take heed about the reality of hell, the terror of hell, and the unquenchable fire of hell.

We hear that question a lot, especially on sports talk shows. We’re used to hearing dogmatic debates over who someone considers is the ‘greatest’ at their craft.

Our passage this week seems to indicate that the choice of Jesus taking only three of His disciples up the mount to witness His transfiguration has stirred a discussion centered around which disciple, or disciples, will be considered the greatest? 

Join us this week as we see Jesus give out His standard, the gold standard, for considering someone “great.” Should be an important message for all of us who feel called to servant leadership.

Mark 9:14-28

Last week, we followed Jesus up to the top of a mountain where we reflected on the glory of His transfiguration. What a ‘super moment’ that must have been! However, this Sunday we will follow Jesus down the mountain and examine what evil can do in the life of a child being attacked by demons, and what doubt can do in the life of a father who is watching and simply feels helpless. This Sunday will be a good reminder of how to react when you sense the devil’s attacks on your loved ones.

Last week, we looked at what we called a "watershed moment" in Mark 8:27-38, when Peter made "the great confession" that Jesus is indeed the Christ. This week, we will follow Peter, James and John up the Mount of Transfiguration and examine one of the most amazing 'super moments' in all of scripture . . . the moment when Jesus showed them His glory.

If you think God is good, but you want to feel God is good; if you think God is with you, but you want to feel God is with you; this Sunday should be a real encouragement to you!

Last week, we witnessed how the Syrophoenician woman’s simple request for crumbs led to the healing hand of Jesus upon her daughter. This week, we come to a healing miracle that is only recorded in Mark. We will witness Jesus pulling aside a mute and deaf man, touch him, sigh, and say the unthinkable . . . “BE OPENED!”
